Salman Naseer likely to be appointed as PCB’s new managing director

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB), Chief Operating Officer (COO) Salman Naseer, who has been playing a pivotal role in PCB’s executive operations, is now facing a potential transfer.

Having climbed the ranks over recent years, all department directors currently report to him. However, with a possible move to become the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Director, Salman would be required to report to the new COO, a change that some see as a demotion.

To navigate this, a proposal is under consideration to create a new position—Managing Director (MD)—allowing Salman to report directly to the PCB Chairman.

This new role would enable him to maintain his current level of oversight and authority. Sources close to the board suggest that Salman is likely to accept this offer, though some insiders claim that he may, in fact, decide to leave PCB altogether. A decision on the matter is expected soon.

In addition to Salman’s potential transfer, Usman Wahla, Director of International Cricket, is also being considered for a shift to the PSL team alongside him.

This move has raised concerns among PSL franchise officials, who reportedly had a challenging experience working with Usman in the past.

On another front, Syed Sameer Ahmed, a senior bureaucrat currently serving at the Prime Minister’s House and a former Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, is being touted as the prospective new COO. Known for his strong track record, Sameer’s possible entry into PCB has generated optimism for improved management within the organization.

The developments are still unfolding, with clarity on these potential shifts expected in the near future.
