Sharjeel Inam Memon likens SC verdict on reserved seats to ‘good to see you’

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict on the reserved seats case reflects a glimpse of “Good to see you.”

Speaking to the media in Karachi on Friday, Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the country is witnessing a political strategy of “Good to see you” and “Ladla Azam.”

The Supreme Court of Pakistan in its verdict announced earlier during the day had said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was entitled to reserved seats and that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s decision to allocate reserved seats to the ruling coalition was unconstitutional.

He expressed confusion following today’s Supreme Court verdict.

He emphasized the need to uphold the law, not personal favourites, and indicated that legal experts from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would review the decision.

Commenting that the PPP had suffered the most from judicial decisions, Memon cited the example of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s unfair trial that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had admitted to 44 years after his execution. The prinvicial minister also gave the example of President Asif Ali Zardari who remained in jail for around years without any conviction.

He added that previous decisions of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were ‘bulldozed.”

He noted that Imran Khan appointed the Chief of the Election Commission. Imran Khan appeared in court in a Mercedes and said he was sorry.

He said that a PPP leader had been disqualified for concealing a family member but when the same matter arose for Imran Khan it was called a private matter.

Sharjeel Inam Memon also criticised former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar for ‘supporting Imran Khan’ and PTI, adding that such an example is unprecedented in history.

“While Saqib Nisar gave the title of Sadiq and Amin to the most famous lier in the world, he targeted Imran Khan’s opponents,” Memon said accusing Saqib Nisar of ‘creating injustice’ in the country through his position.

Sharjeel Inam Memon alleged that Imran Khan’s role was undemocratic, inhuman, and unethical.
He slammed Imran Khan for attacking the families of his political opponents.

Commenting on today’s apex court decision that favoured the PTI, Memon said that the PTI was not a party in the case.

He added that Imran Khan was being treated as a ‘Ladla’ (blue-eyed boy) and being proivided with facilities in jail.

Today’s verdict by the apex court pertained to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC)’s plea challenging the PHC decision, which upheld the ECP move to deny reserved seats in the assemblies to PTI-backed lawmakers.

The issue of reserved seats arose following the February 8 elections, where over 80 independent candidates, backed by PTI, emerged victorious and later joined the SIC.

It followed CJP Qazi Faez Isa’s January 10 verdict that effectively deprived the PTI of its ‘cricket bat’ election symbol ahead of the February 8 general elections.
