The Security Council passed a Gaza ceasefire resolution in support of US proposals
New York: The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution in support of the US proposals on the Gaza ceasefire.
14 of the 15 members of the UN Security Council voted in support of the resolution presented in support of the US proposals, while Russia did not participate in the voting.
It should be noted that these proposals for the Gaza ceasefire were presented by US President Joe Biden a week ago. Before finalizing the resolution, the draft was discussed among the member states for 6 days in the Security Council.
According to the news of the international news organization, Israel has accepted these proposals presented by the United States. Hamas has not yet accepted these proposals, but has welcomed the UN resolution on the Gaza ceasefire.
The US resolution called for the two sides to hold talks immediately, and said the ceasefire would be strictly enforced in the meantime.
A few months ago, the UN Security Council demanded that Israel stop bombing Gaza and immediately release the hostages from Hamas.
It should be noted that the US proposal for a Gaza ceasefire consists of three parts, the first phase dealing with the exchange of hostages and prisoners as well as a short-term ceasefire.
According to the text of the US draft resolution, the second phase includes a permanent cessation of hostilities as well as the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
The third phase focuses on the long-term vision of the enclave, and will begin a multi-year reconstruction plan for the devastated Gaza.
