Taylor Swift shatters Spotify records with “The Tortured Poets Department”

Taylor Swift’s reign on Spotify continues! The superstar singer has shattered records with the release of her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department”.

Spotify confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday, April 19th, that Swift is now the most-streamed artist in a single day. She also holds the record for the most-streamed album in a single day. Remarkably, the top three most-streamed albums in a single day in Spotify’s history all belong to Swift: “The Tortured Poets Department”, “Midnights”, and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”.

Swift’s record spree started even before the album’s release, as “The Tortured Poets Department” became the most pre-saved album in Spotify history.

The fan frenzy reached fever pitch when Swift surprised everyone with a double album reveal. Two hours after the initial midnight release, she dropped 15 additional tracks, calling it “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology”.

Inspired by her past and present relationships (including Matty Healy, Joe Alwyn, and Travis Kelce), “The Tortured Poets Department” marks Swift’s most personal project yet. In an Instagram post, she called this period of her life “sensational and sorrowful in equal measure” and declared the chapter closed.

The album’s lead single, “Fortnight”, features Post Malone, and its music video dropped on Friday night.
