Former Texas A&M baseball star Mike Easley, a key player on the renowned 1989 Aggie team, has passed away at 57 after a lengthy battle with a heart condition.
Texas A&M’s baseball program shared the news on social media on Tuesday, October 29, offering condolences to Easley’s family and friends. Easley’s son, Mike Easley Jr., responded with a heartfelt message, expressing, “Here. I love you so much dad, and I will miss you always.”
Easley’s health challenges intensified in recent weeks, with him spending time in a Houston hospital. Former teammate Scott Livingstone, now a host on the Ball 5 podcast, initiated a support campaign days before Easley’s passing, selling “Don’t Count Mike Out” T-shirts to raise funds and rally fans around the Aggie legend.
Easley was a standout first baseman on the celebrated 1989 team coached by Mark Johnson. Known for their 58–7 season record and a co-championship in the Southwest Conference (SWC), they triumphed over top-ranked Texas and showcased unforgettable performances in the SWC tournament. The Aggies concluded their season ranked second in Baseball America’s final poll, etching Easley and his teammates into Texas A&M sports history.
