At least 25 dead as passenger bus plunges into ravine on Rawalakot to Rawalpindi route

A passenger coaster travelling from Rawalakot to Rawalpindi plunged into a deep ravine near Pana Pul, Azaad Pattan, resulting in the deaths of 25 people, Express News quoted officials on Sunday.

Rescue teams were dispatched to the accident site, where efforts were underway to retrieve bodies and assist the injured, who remained trapped in the wreckage.

Sardar Abdul Waheed, Commissioner of Poonch Division, confirmed that the accident occurred near Pana Pul, between Azaad Pattan and Kahuta.

Upon receiving the news, rescue teams were immediately sent from Rawalakot and Sadhanoti.

 

Deputy Commissioner Sadhanoti, Umar Farooq, stated that the deceased included children, women, and men, all of whom were from the Sadhanoti district.

Meanwhile, earlier today, a bus carrying pilgrims from Iran plunged into a ravine on the Makran Coastal Highway near Buzi Luk, resulting in the death of 12 people.

According to Edhi rescue sources, 23 others were injured in the incident and were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bus, en route from Iran, reportedly experienced brake failure before it veered off the highway and into the ravine.

Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene to retrieve the deceased and assist the injured.

The deceased are said to be from Lahore and Gujranwala.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the Lasbela incident and extended her condolences to the grieving families.
