Visa-free entry to Thailand now available for 93 countries
Thailand will allow visa-free entry for people from 93 countries and territories starting 15 July, an increase from the current 57 regions, with visitors permitted to stay for up to 60 days, the Ministry of Interior announced.
The move is aimed at bolstering tourism and short-term business visits. Ministry spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul stated that the new regulations would enable people from eligible nations to visit for leisure or business purposes.
Additionally, the number of territories eligible for a visa on arrival will increase to 31 from 19, she noted. These changes will come into effect once published in the Royal Gazette.
Foreign arrivals in Thailand until 7 July 2024 increased by 35% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 18.2 million visitors and generating revenue of 858 billion baht (S$31.8 billion), according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry. China, Malaysia, and India have been the top sources of tourists this year.
A new visa category, the Destination Thailand Visa, will also be introduced on 15 July, targeting digital nomads, freelancers, and visitors interested in learning skills such as cooking and martial arts. This visa will allow holders to stay for up to 180 days and will be valid for five years.
Furthermore, visiting students who earn a bachelor’s degree or higher in Thailand will be allowed to stay for one year after graduation to seek employment, travel, or conduct other activities, according to the Ministry’s statement.
The expansion of visa-free entry and the introduction of new visa categories are part of Thailand’s strategy to revitalize its tourism industry and attract more international visitors.
