Super Eight Round; South Africa defeated West Indies and reached the semi-finals
North Sound Antigua: In the Super Eight stage of the ICCT20 World Cup, South Africa defeated the West Indies by 3 wickets and qualified for the semi-finals.
South Africa won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first. The host team of the event, West Indies, batting first managed to score 135 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
When South Africa started batting in pursuit of the target, two players had returned to the pavilion for 15 runs , after which the match was halted due to rain, but when the game resumed, South Africa had to achieve the target of 123 runs in 17 overs.
Captain Aiden Markram scored 18 runs, Tristan Stubbs scored 29 runs and Heinrich Klaasen scored 22 runs while Marco Jensen scored 21 runs and played a key role in winning the match.
West Indian bowler Ruston Chase took 3 wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs.
West Indies innings:
West Indies’ first wicket fell for two runs when Shay Hope returned to the pavilion without scoring, Kyle Mears scored 35 runs, Nicholas Pooran’s innings was limited to just one run.
Ruston Chase was instrumental in bringing the team to the score with a brilliant half-century, Ruston’s knock of 52 off 42 balls included 2 sixes and 3 fours. Andre Russell was dismissed for 15 runs.
On behalf of South Africa, Shams Tabrizi dismissed 3 players, while Marko Jensen, Adam Markram, Keshav Maharaj and Rabada took one wicket each.
The 50th match of the mega event was played at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
