NDMA has issued an alert for heavy rains and floods in July

Islamabad:  NDMA issued an alert regarding heavy monsoon rains and possible flood situation and directed the concerned institutions to remain alert.

According to Express News, NDMA has issued an alert regarding monsoon rains and said that rains will start in different parts of the country from the first week of July.

According to the NDMA, moderate to heavy rains may increase water flow in local drains/streams/rivers, leading to risk of flooding in sensitive areas.

Due to moderate to heavy rains, mountain floods are expected in sensitive areas of DI Khan, DG Khan, Rajanpur and Suleman and Kirthar ranges while urban flooding is expected in sensitive urban areas of the country.

Due to moderate to heavy rains, there is also a risk of landslides in the sensitive areas of Murree, Guliyat, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan hilly areas, while increasing temperature and possible rains in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. may increase the flow of rivers and streams.

According to NDMA, glacier lake burst events are more likely to occur in sensitive/hazardous valleys, while dust storms/wind, thunder and heavy rains can damage power poles, solar panels, hoardings, tall buildings, etc. Trees and buildings under construction may be damaged.

NDMA has directed all concerned institutions and stakeholders to be alert and take necessary steps
