His closest rival, Galvez, conceded defeat and expressed his best wishes for the successful female candidate, Claudia Scheinbaum, and assured his cooperation in domestic affairs, playing the role of an effective opposition.

The historic victory was celebrated in Mexico City’s main square. The newly elected lady president also sang and danced.

In her speech, Claudia Scheinbaum said, “I want to thank the millions of Mexican women and men who voted for me on this historic day.” I will not disappoint you.

Dangerous drug lords and gangsters rule many areas in Mexico. Even between the gangs, there are bloody fights every day. 26 politicians who wanted to participate in the elections were killed.

However, despite this fresh wave of violence in the terror-stricken areas, a large number of voters reached the polling stations, for whose protection thousands of soldiers were deployed at the polling stations.

Mexico, the most populous country in the Spanish-speaking world, has a population of 129 million and about 100 million voters. Along with the election of a new president, there were elections for members of the assembly, several state governors and several local officials
