Apocalyptic heat in India; 19 people died from heat stroke
New Delhi: In the Indian capital and the states of Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha, normal life has been disrupted due to extreme heat and heat stroke, while 19 people have been confirmed dead due to the heat at the official level.According to Indian media, a temperature of 52.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in the capital New Delhi yesterday, which was the hottest day in the country’s history.
Apart from Maharashtra, the heat has also set up camps in the eastern states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, where 5, 3 and 10 people have died due to heat stroke respectively, while the condition of many people has deteriorated.
Similarly, one person died in the hospital due to extreme heat in the Indian capital New Delhi. The cause of death was given as dehydration. This is the first heat death in New Delhi.
The current heat wave in the eastern states of India is likely to continue for two days. The Meteorological Department has declared a heat wave when the temperature reaches 4.5 degrees Celsius.
With temperatures in New Delhi causing birds and wild monkeys to faint or become ill, the city’s zoo is relying on pools and sprinklers to comfort its 1,200 residents.
The Odisha state government has banned outdoor activities for its employees between 11 am and 3 pm.
