38 people died due to heavy rains in India and Bangladesh
New Delhi/Dhaka: A total of 38 people were killed due to heavy rains and cyclones in India and Bangladesh and 12 people were killed due to mine collapse as a result of the worst cyclone in the Indian state of Mizoram.
According to the report of news agency AFP, Deputy Commissioner of Mizoram’s Aizawl district, Nazhak Kumar, said that 12 bodies have been recovered so far and the search for more is on.
NDTV News Network reported that Police Director General Anil Shukla said that rescue operations at the mine had been stalled due to heavy rains.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Duhoma also announced relief funds for the families of those killed in the landslide caused by Cyclone Rimal.
President of India Draupadi Murmu said in a statement on social media that I pray for the success of the relief work and the speedy recovery of the injured.
According to reports, several highways and major highways in Mizoram have been suspended due to landslides, all schools have been closed and government employees have been directed to work from home.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted the heaviest torrential rains in the entire Mizoram and other northeastern states.
On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Biswa Sarma said in a statement that one citizen has died due to heavy rain and power supply has been suspended.
Landslides were also caused by the cyclone in Bangladesh and a total of 38 people have been killed in both countries as a result.
Eight civilians were killed in the Indian state of West Bengal, after which the death toll in India has increased to 21.
