Alleged bribery, senior Russian general arrested

Moscow:  The senior general of Russia was arrested on the charge of taking bribe.

According to the official news agency of Russia, the military court of Russia ordered to send the Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff Vadim Shimrin to jail on remand. A Russian general has been arrested for taking bribes. If convicted, they could face up to 15 years in prison.

The agency further says that the court issued orders to keep Vadim Shimrin in custody for 2 months. The arrest of the senior Russian general is seen as a continuation of the ongoing crackdown on some senior military officers.

In the past few weeks, a Russian deputy defense minister, Timur Ivanov, and the ministry’s chief of staff, Yuri Kuznetsov, have also been arrested on bribery charges.
