A passenger bus fell into a drain in India; 19 people including 12 women died
New Delhi: A high-speed passenger bus fell into a deep canal in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, as a result of which 19 people were killed and 8 seriously injured.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the passenger bus was carrying 25 passengers and they were returning to the village after a holiday when the bus lost control of the driver and fell into a deep drain on the side of the road in Kabirdham district.
The canal was filled with water to irrigate the fields and was so wide and deep that the bus was submerged. After the accident, local people tried to evacuate the passengers with their help.
19 bodies were recovered from the drain, out of which 12 were women, while 8 injured have to be admitted to the hospital due to serious injuries and the remaining 5 people have suffered minor injuries.
Police say that the cause of the accident has not yet been determined. An inquiry committee was formed, but eyewitnesses said that speeding was the cause of the accident.
