From Instagram to Cannes: Indian influencer Nancy Tyagi flaunts her creations at biggest stage
Delhi-based fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi, known for her DIY recreations of celebrity and pop-culture looks, made a stunning debut at the Cannes Film Festival this week. The social media star, who hailed from a humble background has made it to one of the biggest film festivals in the world. She walked the red carpet in a self-made ruffled floor-length gown, crafted from an astounding 1000 meters of fabric. This labour of love took 30 days to complete and weighed over 20 kilograms.
Nancy shared her red carpet experience on Instagram, posting pictures of her in the gown at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. In her caption, she reflected on the surreal nature of her journey, writing, “Stepping onto the red carpet at the 77th Cannes Film Festival as a debutant feels surreal. I poured my heart and soul into creating this pink gown. The journey has been intense, but every moment was worth it.”
She expressed her gratitude, adding, “I’m overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for the love and support from all of you. This is a dream come true, and I hope my creation dazzles you as much as your support has inspired me.”
The blush pink gown, which features a strapless silhouette, a sequinned corseted bodice, and layers of tiered ruffles forming the skirt and long train, was styled to perfection. Nancy completed the look with sheer pink opera gloves, a dainty necklace, matching earrings, a bracelet, and a statement ring, making for an unforgettable debut.
For her second look, the influencer opted for something more traditional with a mauve saree featuring intricate hand embroidery. Nancy shared a behind-the-scenes look into how she created her second self-made piece with an Instagram reel. The caption read, “My second outfit from the Cannes Film Festival, which I wrote at a special event, is another creation made entirely by me. Every piece was meticulously crafted and assembled by me.”
The video showcased the influencer visiting cloth markets in India, handpicking fabrics for the piece and sewing them together until it became the stunning ensemble seen at Cannes.
While the influencer is being praised for her impeccable eye for fashion and design skills, she is also being lauded by netizens for giving a red-carpet interview in her native tongue. Nancy spoke in Hindi throughout the entire interview, with the help of a translator. An Instagram user commented, “She just nailed it! And proud of the fact that she spoke in her native tongue and had someone translate it.” Another wrote, “Speaking Hindi! Extremely proud of her.”
