Hathaway will reportedly play a race team owner and engineer opposite Cruise.<\/p>\n<p>Cruise confirmed the project by sharing a promotional image featuring himself and Hathaway at a racetrack beside a green-and-yellow No. 46 stock car.<\/p>\n<p>The original film followed Cole Trickle, a talented but inexperienced driver attempting to establish himself in NASCAR. Cruise starred alongside Robert Duvall, Nicole Kidman, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker and John C. Reilly.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Levine is set to direct the sequel, while Cruise will produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. Plot details remain under wraps, including how Trickle\u2019s story will continue nearly four decades after the original film.<\/p>\n<p>Hathaway\u2019s reported role places her character within the racing world as both a team owner and engineer. Further details about her character and her connection to Trickle have not been revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The sequel will also revisit NASCAR after significant changes to the sport since the original film\u2019s release.
