The movie, starring Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers, follows the story of a young woman who can bring spirits into the mortal world but is herself haunted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a solid opening for the sixth episode of a horror series,&#8221; wrote David Gross in the FranchiseRe movie industry newsletter. &#8220;The drop from number five&#8217;s opening in July 2023 is substantial but typical of these sequels.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Nolan&#8217;s epic\u00a0<em>The Odyssey\u00a0<\/em>slipped to third, bringing in $19.5 million, down 17% in its sixth weekend, for a current domestic total of $539.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>At fourth, Paramount Pictures&#8217;\u00a0<em>Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie\u00a0<\/em>took in $9.1 million, down 55% on last weekend&#8217;s opening.<\/p>\n<p>Warner Bros&#8217;\u00a0sci-fi thriller\u00a0<em>The End of Oak Street<\/em>, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a couple battling to survive when their neighbourhood is transported back to prehistoric times, brought in $9 million, down 57%.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top 10 were\u00a0<em>Mutiny\u00a0<\/em>($7.5 million),\u00a0<em>Tony\u00a0<\/em>($5.0 million),\u00a0<em>Spa Weekend<\/em>\u00a0($3.1 million),\u00a0<em>The Fast and the Furious\u00a0<\/em>($3.1 million), and\u00a0<em>Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma\u00a0<\/em>($1.9 million).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spider-Man: Brand New Day\u00a0is still riding high in the North American box office, topping ticket sales for the fourth consecutive weekend in cinemas, but sharply down from last week&#8217;s performance.
