{"id":3003,"date":"2026-03-28T11:54:39","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T11:54:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistantimesusa.net\/?p=3003"},"modified":"2026-03-28T11:54:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T11:54:39","slug":"ngc-to-launch-new-operating-model-from-july-to-modernise-national-grid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistantimesusa.net\/?p=3003","title":{"rendered":"NGC to launch new operating model from July to modernise national grid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited (NGC) is set to roll out a new operating model from July 1, 2026, as part of an ongoing organisational overhaul aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and reliability in the power transmission system.<\/p>\n<p>The development was shared with Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari during a recent briefing, where the company said its transformation initiative\u2014launched in January this year\u2014remains on track.<\/p>\n<p>The minister reaffirmed the government\u2019s support for the\u00a0reform process,\u00a0stating that the effort reflects the \u201ckind of institutional change Pakistan\u2019s power sector urgently needs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Read:\u00a0Govt proposes optional multi-tariff system for industries<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0restructuring\u00a0is being led by NGC Managing Director Engr Altaf Hussain Malik, who assumed office in November 2025. He said the initiative aims to build a more \u201cagile, accountable\u201d utility aligned with global best practices.<\/p>\n<p>The overhaul seeks to address\u00a0structural inefficiencies\u00a0dating back to 1998, when NGC\u2019s predecessor, the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), was established. Despite evolving into a dedicated transmission service provider, the company continued to operate under a legacy structure marked by overlapping functions and weak coordination.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new model, NGC will introduce unified operations leadership, strengthen financial management, establish dedicated regulatory and stakeholder teams, and implement independent safety oversight. The plan also includes streamlining internal processes and deploying modern digital systems to enable real-time data monitoring and improved grid management.<\/p>\n<p>Read More:\u00a0Govt proposes optional multi-tariff system for industries<\/p>\n<p>Since January, the company has filled key\u00a0leadership positions, introduced performance metrics and advanced the deployment of new technology systems.
