At least six people died in a bus fire late on \u200bTuesday in a small town in western Switzerland, in \u200cwhat police said may have been caused by a deliberate act.<\/p>\n
Police said the bus became engulfed in flames on a road in Kerzers, a \u200btown in the canton of Fribourg, about 20 km (12 \u200bmiles) from the Swiss capital, Bern, after media reports \u2060that a person on the bus had set fire \u200bto themselves.<\/p>\n
“At this stage, we have elements suggesting a deliberate act \u200bby a person who was inside the bus,” said Frederic Papaux, a spokesperson for Fribourg police.<\/p>\n
Investigators were looking into reports that a person had \u200bpoured fuel on themselves, said Christa Bielmann, another local police \u200bspokesperson. It was too early to say whether the incident was terror-related, she \u200ctold \u2060a press conference.<\/p>\n
Three injured people were taken to the hospital, police said.<\/p>\n

Passengers were seen escaping from the burning bus, panicked and injured, Papaux said, adding that no other vehicle was involved.<\/p>\n
Video after \u200bthe flames were \u200bextinguished showed \u2060the charred remains of the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Swiss President Guy Parmelin offered his condolences and said the incident \u200bwas being investigated.<\/p>\n
“It shocks and saddens me that \u200bonce again \u2060people have lost their lives in a serious fire in Switzerland,” he said in a statement on X.<\/p>\n
