Karachi Kings name new head coach after Warner takes over as captain
Karachi Kings have appointed former England all-rounder Ravi Bopara as the head coach for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The franchise made the announcement via Instagram on Friday.
Bopara’s appointment follows the resignation of Phil Simons, who stepped down after one season in charge, citing his new commitments with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which has offered him a two-year contract.
Bopara, who served as the assistant coach in the previous season, has now been promoted to the top role, with Muhammad Masroor taking up the position of assistant coach.
The Kings, who were eliminated in the round stages in the last three seasons, have made significant changes to their management structure. This comes after a string of disappointing performances.
In another shake-up earlier this week, the Karachi franchise named former Australian opener David Warner as their new team captain. Warner, one of the most prolific T20 openers, brings a wealth of leadership experience, having captained various top T20 teams, including those in the Big Bash League.
Warner was selected as Karachi’s first pick in the Platinum category during the PSL-10 Players Draft, which took place on January 13, 2025, at Hazoori Bagh in Lahore.
The PSL 10 will begin from Friday, April 11, 2025 with defending champions Islamabad United taking on two times champions Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
