JIT summons Aleema Khan, 16 others over social media propaganda

A joint investigation team (JIT) has summoned Aleema Khan and 16 others for questioning in a case related to alleged negative anti-government propaganda on social media.

According to sources, the JIT has issued fresh notices to these individuals, instructing them to appear on March 21. Investigators will probe their involvement in the alleged online campaign against the government.

Those summoned include political figures such as Syed Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Mohammad Khalid Khurshid Khan, Mian Mohammad Aslam Iqbal, Mohammad Hammad Azhar, and Aun Abbas.

Others on the list include Mohammad Shehbaz Shabbir, Waqas Akram, Taimoor Saleem Khan, Sibghatullah Warak, Azhar Mashwani, and Mohammad Noman Afzal.

Additionally, the JIT has summoned Jibran Ilyas, Salman Raza, Zulfi Bukhari, Moosa Warak, and Ali Malik.

The sources added that Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founding chairman Imran Khan, has been summoned again, despite appearing before the JIT on March 19.

The investigation is being conducted under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. The JIT was formed by the federal government and is headed by the Islamabad police chief.

Aleema Khan last appeared before the JIT on Wednesday as part of an inquiry into alleged “malicious campaigns on social media” aimed at inciting unrest in the country.

According to local media reports, Aleema Khan was interrogated for over two hours by the JIT.

Investigators questioned her regarding Imran Khan’s social media account, sources added.

During the session, Aleema Khan reportedly informed the JIT that her brother’s social media account is managed from abroad and that she has no knowledge of its operations.

She maintained that the account is solely used to promote PTI’s official stance, sources said.

Previously, the JIT had summoned Aleema Khan last Friday, but she was unable to attend due to personal commitments. Instead, her lawyer, Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, appeared on her behalf.
