Terrible fire at South Korean battery factory; 20 employees killed

SEOUL:  20 workers were severely burned to death in a fire at a lithium battery manufacturing plant in South Korea.

According to the world news agency, this incident happened in the battery manufacturing company “Arisel” in the city of Hwaseong, South Korea. The fire broke out in the warehouse of the factory, which soon engulfed the entire factory.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by the explosion of battery cells inside the warehouse. About 35 thousand batteries were stored in this warehouse.

The fire brigade crew brought the fire under control after 4 hours of effort. During the rescue operations, the bodies of 20 people have been removed from the wreckage of the burnt factory.

Around a dozen injured employees were brought to a nearby hospital, of which 4 are said to be in a critical condition. The fear of increasing the number of casualties is being expressed.An inquiry committee was formed to investigate the incident.
