India make a winning start in the T20 World Cup, defeating Ireland by 8 wickets

New York:  India got off to a winning start in the T20 World Cup by defeating Ireland by 8 wickets .

In the eighth match of the ICCT Twenty World Cup played between the Group A teams at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, India chased down Ireland’s target of 97 runs for the loss of two wickets in 12.2 overs.

Chasing the target, India’s innings was opened by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but Virat Kohli got out after scoring only one run.

Rohit Sharma was retired after scoring 52 runs while Rishabh Pant remained not out with 36 runs, Surya Kumar Yadav scored 2 runs.

Mark Adair and Ben White took one wicket each for Ireland.

Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl, which proved to be good for the Indian team.

The Irish batsmen proved to be a wall of sand in front of the Indian bowlers and 7 players could not even enter double figures.

Batting first, Ireland scored 96 runs in 16 overs and the entire team returned to the pavilion. Gareth Delaney was the leading batsman with 26 runs while Hardik Pandya took three wickets, Arsdeep Singh and Bumrah took two wickets each. Apart from this, Siraj and Akshar Patel took one wicket each.
