T20 World Cup; West Indies beat Papua New Guinea by 5 wickets

Guyana:  West Indies defeated Papua New Guinea by 5 wickets in the second match of the ICCT Twenty World Cup.

In the match played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, West Indies set Papua New Guinea’s target of 137 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 19 overs.

Roston Chase 42, Brendan King 34, Nicholas Pooran 27 were prominent for West Indies.

Andre Russell and Rowman Powell scored 15, 15 runs while Sheriff Rutherford scored only 2 runs. Johnson Charles returned to the pavilion without opening an account.

Asadwala took 2 wickets, Jon Kariko, Chad Soper and Eli Nau took 1 wicket each for Puapuanyugani.

Earlier, West Indies captain Rowman Powell won the toss and decided to bowl. Batting first, Papua New Guinea scored 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Sis Bau scored a half-century while Kaplan Dorega remained unbeaten with 27 runs, skipper Asadwala scored 21 runs.

For West Indies, Andre Russell and Al-Zari Joseph took 2, 2, Aqeel Hussain, Romario Shepherd and Jadakesh Moti took one wicket each.

Earlier, USA defeated Canada by 7 wickets in the opening match of T20 World Cup 2024 between Group A teams in Dales
