Bollywood actor of American descent Tom Alter was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after diagnosed with stage four skin cancer.
The report was confirmed b his son Jamie Alter. “It is what is called a squamous cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer). It is a relapse of the same thing which had happened last year and unfortunately, for various reasons, it was not detected at that time and has come back,” Jamie told while disapproving earlier reports of stage four bone cancer, adding that the family desires to have privacy over Tom’s health condition.
The 67-year-old has stayed at Mumbai s Saifee Hospital and doctors are happy with his progress. According to the inputs from Indian sources, medical experts at the hospital have started next round of medication. “His body functions are fine … The past one week has gone in getting him in a state of physical strength,” Tom’s son stated while assuring that everything will be conveyed to media directly.
Earlier in 2016, he had his thumb amputated due to deteriorating health situation. The Black Cat director Bhargav Saikia told the actor was unable to attend the special screening of the film in Mussoorie due to the diagnosis. Saikia called the happening unfortunate.
Tom Alter has lent his acting services for Indian television during the careers spanning in several decades. Bharat Ek Khoj, Betaal Pachisi and Zabaan Sambhalke are some of his known TV dramas. He also performed in Bollywood with Shatranj Ke Khilari, Gandhi, Aashiqui, Parinda and Kranti to his name. Moreover, he was the recipient of Padma Shri in 2008, the fourth highest civilian honour in India. Tom has played iconic roles in his career like Sahir Ludhianvi and speaks perfect Urdu. His father and grandparents lived in Sialkot of Pakistan.
